I arrived in Barcelona, Spain at around 11AM after flying from San Diego through Atlanta. Upon arrival, I went outside the airport and took the A1 bus which dropped me right in the heart of the city at Plaça Catalunya where my hotel was located. Knowing that Barcelona was a busy place, that it would probably be rather expensive, and that I'd be tired after flying over night, I did some research before hand and pre booked a hotel. It was called Hotel Ginebra, which according to Trip Advisor was a fairly budget hotel for its location. It was pretty much exactly as it was reviewed, no frills, small rooms, but everything you would need. It wouldn't be recommended for a romantic getaway, but as a single traveler it was perfect for me, and the location can't be beat, as my room had a balcony overlooking the plaza. I would definitely recommend this for a no frills traveler who wants privacy, a good value, and wants to stay in the heart of the city. After the exchange rate, I paid less than $100 per night for a double -- singles were not available during my stay. The only downside for me was that you couldn't take the room key with you, you had to leave it at reception each time you left.
I was in Barcelona for two nights and three days, and although it was a quick few days, it was all I needed to explore the city. I spent a lot of time wandering around La Rambla, took the bus up to Park Güell, made it to La Sagrada Familia, wandered around La Boqueria, walked down to the Arc de Triumph, saw some old Roman Ruins, saw some of Gaudi's interesting buildings, spent time eating tapas and drinking coffee, caught some live music in the plaza by a band called Barrio Candela, and then took the overnight train to Córdoba.
